The Basketball Jesus Rankings: Week 15

Nate Tharp, Monday, February 9, 2009 at 10:11 PM Comments (0)

Basketball JesusThere was quite a bit of movement in the last week of the Basketball Jesus Rankings before the All-Star game. There are some friendly faces at the top as LeBron James had a couple of nice games to maintain the top spot and a comfortable lead over Dwyane Wade in the second spot. D-Wade also has a nice cushion over the number three spot. But that’s where it starts to get interesting.

There’s no new faces on the list this week, but there are a few players that we may not get to see for a while after this week.

My name is Dickerson…Chris Dickerson

My secret is that I use two bats...

My secret is that I use two bats...

A couple of weeks ago I did a column on rookie pitchers that debuted in 2008 and analyzed what their prospects were for future success. I thought I might follow that up with a column on the rookie hitters that debuted in 2008. To do this, I took a look at the 119 hitters that debuted last year and to minimize the analysis, I looked only at those hitters with at least 100 AB’s and an OBP at least .325 and a SLG of at least .375. To make sure that I didn’t miss anyone, I also looked at anyone with an OBP over .350 or a SLG of at least .425. Here are the top 10:

*Chuck Norris Presents The Drubbing links of the week 2

Ryan Doyle, Friday, February 6, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (0)

Chuck NorrisThis weeks  links for the post-Super Bowl hangover:

While the ending of the game can be questioned, at least fans in Tucson got a nice little surprise.

The Boston Celtics have decided to part ways with their mascot.  I wonder how the job market is for experienced leprechauns?

This is rather old, but i stumbled upon this gem of a failed high 5.

If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you

Joe Price, Friday, February 6, 2009 at 2:45 AM Comments (1)

If you have ever listened to sports talk radio or watched ESPN for more than five minutes, you have probably heard the reasons that college football can’t create a playoff system. It goes something like this: 1) The BCS exists to make the rich football conferences richer. 2) The bowl system can’t be changed because there is too much money involved. 3) Extending the season would dramatically affect the ability of student athletes to complete their classes.

Rocky Top Tennessee, Pat Summitt makes history

Nate Tharp, Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 11:05 PM Comments (0)

Pat SummittWith all of the political and economic turmoil and news in the air, with the sports world flooded with post-Super Bowl talk, mid-season NBA rivalries and Michael Phelps hitting the pipe, a monumental event in American sports history may go nearly unnoticed.

On Thursday, February 5th, 2009, in Nashville, Tennessee, against the University of Georgia, Pat Summitt became the first NCAA Division I basketball coach to record their 1,000th career win.

Tyler Hansbrough is a Joke (and I’m not Just Talking About his Facial Expressions)

Rodney Griffith, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 6:57 AM Comments (12)

Tyler Hansbrough press conferenceTyler Hansbrough, you are no Kevin Love.

Tyler Hansbrough you may be selected player of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference, but that does not mean you are the player of the year in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Tyler Hansbrough, meet Dave Neal who is an unathletic, undersized four man listed at 6-7, 263.  If Dave Neal can push you out from underneath the basket, then just wait until guys like Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol, Amare Stoudamire, and Chris Bosh man you up.

South Carolina police building trumped up charges on Michael Phelps

Nate Tharp, Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 3:25 PM Comments (0)

Cheech and ChongThe authorities in the county of South Carolina where Michael Phelps was allegedly photographed taking a huge bong rip are currently working on building a case against him. My advice to small town cops like these: get over yourself, and stop trying to build a career on a celebrity that stumbled (albeit, high as a kite) into your little corner of The Real America.

Not So Super Bowl?

Ryan Doyle, Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:27 AM Comments (2)

This should have gone down as one of the better Super Bowl games, complete with 2 of the greatest comebacks in Super Bowl history and the longest play ever in Super Bowl history.  Unfortunately, the game ended on a sour note.  James Harrison should be celebrated for having the longest score in Super Bowl history, and for that score to be on the defensive end is even more amazing especially given the circumstances right before the end of the half.   Unfortunately his actions in the 4th quarter take away from all of that. James Harrison should have been throw out of the game for what he did, even a half dead John Madden said so, and John has seen some ish in his day.

The Basketball Jesus Rankings: Week 13

Nate Tharp, Sunday, February 1, 2009 at 7:15 PM Comments (0)

Basketball JesusNo surprise that as long as LeBron James continues to dominate play in the NBA, he will continue to dominate the Basketball Jesus Rankings. Dwyane Wade has cut his lead down to just 57 points, but even that margin won’t be made up overnight when he’s going up against LeBron James.

Kobe continues to rise up the charts. He’s the only player I could possibly see challenging King James and D-Wade for one of the top spots.
