The Big Shaqtus calls out Chris “Juwanna Mann” Bosh

, Monday, March 2, 2009 at 12:00 PM Comments (0)

Cowboy Chris BoshThe Big Shaqawokee has struck again. The Diesel has a long history of calling people out, and mixing it up in the press. But this one is a doozey.

After Shaq busted out a monster 45-point game against the Toronto Raptors, their star center, Chris Bosh claimed that O’Neal had been the benefactor of some officials playing loose with the rules and ignoring the three-second lane violations that Shaq should’ve picked up when he was camping out in the paint.

Shaq, not being one to take a hit lying down shot back with the following, “I heard what Chris Bosh said, and that’s strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men,” O’Neal said. “I’m going to do the same thing (in their next meeting) I did before — make him quit. Make ‘em quit and complain. It’s what I do.”

Random 50 point NBA games…

, Monday, February 23, 2009 at 11:08 PM Comments (0)

My name is Joe Barry-Carroll, and I once scored 52 points in an NBA game. But I bet you are even more surprised that with that name, I am not white.

My name is Joe Barry-Carroll, and I once scored 52 points in an NBA game. But I bet you are even more surprised that with that name, I am not white.

So I caught most of Dwyane Wade’s 50 point game this afternoon, and considering all the other 50 point explosions, I figured I would take a look at the list. You can find an entire listing here. There have been 389 50 point games in NBA history, before we get to some analysis, first some fun facts:

  • Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain are the only players to record a point total for every number in the 50’s (and Wilt scored every point from 50-63, missed 64 and scored 65,66,67,68)
  • There have been 389 all-time 50 point games, and 183 of them have occurred since 1980. That’s 47% of the total 50 point games in the last 29 years.
  • If you eliminate the 105 of those 50 point games that Wilt Chamberlain had, then 64% of the all time 50 point games have been scored since 1980.
  • 104 different players have scored those 50 points. 68 of those players have done it since 1980, which accounts for 65% of the games.

So, given that we have gotten the fun facts out of the way, lets take a deeper look at some of those players that scored 50 points.

Happy Birthday Chuck

, Friday, February 20, 2009 at 6:00 PM Comments (0)

DonutToday is a big day in the life of Charles Barkley. Today Chuck turned 45 years old, the day after returning to TNT from his DUI-related hiatus.

We love you Chuck, we’re happy  that you’re back, and we hope you never leave the NBA on TNT basketball crew again. C-Webb and The Glove were great NBA players, but they couldn’t come close to replacing you on-air.

Playing the Race Card? Really?

, Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (1)

GM Elgin BaylorElgin Baylor has recently filed a lawsuit against the Clippers, their owner and the NBA.   He is claiming that he was released based on race and age, and that his $320K a year salary was grossly underpaid compared to the other GM’s in the league.  OK, lets take a look at the past 22 years of the LA Clippers.

The Clip have a combined record of 619-1153, that is a winning percentage of .349.   They have made the playoff 4 times in his 22 years, making it out of the first round only once, in 2005.  The highest they have finished in their division is 2nd (once in 2005), and they have only finished above .500 twice in the past 22 years (’05 & ’91).

Sacremento Kings and Chicago Bulls pull off 57 player deal

, Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at 5:25 AM Comments (0)

Oh ESPN, you’re so silly the way you play with numbers. But seriously, how many players were involved in this deal? Is it five, or is it seven? It’s kind of a big deal, especially to those two guys that aren’t sure which city they’ll be living in next week.

NBA All Star Skills Running Blog

, Sunday, February 15, 2009 at 12:06 AM Comments (3)

NBA All-Star 2009 logoI thought it would be fun to do a running blog on some thoughts and comments on the NBA’s festivities between myself and Nate.   So, here we go:

Apparently the WNBA is still in business as a few of their players competed in the “Shooting Stars” event.

Is there anything uglier than Leonardo Barbosa’s halfcourt shot?  It looks like a 6 year old trying to shoot on the big boy hoop.

The Skills competition does not have Chris Paul, Steve Nash, or Deron Williams but its OK because Mo Williams guaranteed a victory.

A Letter to the L.A. Lakers

, Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (0)

Dear L.A. Lakers,

You are a talented team that will undoubtedly make a deep push in the Western Conference playoffs.  We however, have some advice for you during your run.   Please, get a haircut.  We admit that watching a 7-foot center lead a fast break is amazing, but seeing him constantly brush away his un-showered hair out of his eyes is rather annoying.   Maybe if he had ears like his point guard, it may help, but i don’t see them growing to elf-like levels.  We are not just talking about Pau, but also your future X-gamer Vladimir the snow-boarder,  Luke and Sasha.  Speaking of Sasha, tell him typically the WNBA utilizes the  rubber hair bands.   So to help you guys start looking like real professional NBA players, please accept the enclosed gift.  We think it will help.

Sincerely,

The Big Ticket, The Truth, and The Savior – Jesus Shuttlesworth

PS. Thank Luke for supplying the ganja for our Championship after party, as everyone knows, his stash is the stickiest.

*editors note: This was written before Vlad was traded, but since Adam Morrison seems familiar with the Flowbee maybe he can help the rest of the team.

How to make the NBA All-Star Weekend truely an all-star event

, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (5)

NBA All-Star Weekend 2009The NBA All-Star weekend has gotten watered down over the past several years, and it’s well documented. It’s not as bad as the NHL or MLB all-star extravaganzas, but it’s close. We don’t necessarily have the best shooters in the 3-point contest. The dunk contest participants are basically a joke. The selections for the actual All-Star game aren’t really representative of the best players in the league. And the laughable Shooting Stars and Skills Challenge still exist. That itself is proof enough that the All-Star Weekend needs some help. But more than that, I want it to be an All-Star weekend from start to finish.
