Ryan Doyle Archive
Ryan Doyle, is a die hard Boston sports fan, who is holding onto the last glimmer of hope that his arm will one day start throwing 95mph and they can make a Disney movie about his career in the Gulf Coast League. He also strongly believes the introduction of basketball jersey dresses is the greatest advance in woman's fashion since the thong. He can be reached at ryan@thedrubbing.com.
A Letter to the L.A. Lakers
, Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (0)
Dear L.A. Lakers,
You are a talented team that will undoubtedly make a deep push in the Western Conference playoffs. We however, have some advice for you during your run. Please, get a haircut. We admit that watching a 7-foot center lead a fast break is amazing, but seeing him constantly brush away his un-showered hair out of his eyes is rather annoying. Maybe if he had ears like his point guard, it may help, but i don’t see them growing to elf-like levels. We are not just talking about Pau, but also your future X-gamer Vladimir the snow-boarder, Luke and Sasha. Speaking of Sasha, tell him typically the WNBA utilizes the rubber hair bands. So to help you guys start looking like real professional NBA players, please accept the enclosed gift. We think it will help.

Sincerely,
The Big Ticket, The Truth, and The Savior – Jesus Shuttlesworth
PS. Thank Luke for supplying the ganja for our Championship after party, as everyone knows, his stash is the stickiest.
*editors note: This was written before Vlad was traded, but since Adam Morrison seems familiar with the Flowbee maybe he can help the rest of the team.
*Chuck Norris Presents The Drubbing links of the week 2

This weeks links for the post-Super Bowl hangover:
While the ending of the game can be questioned, at least fans in Tucson got a nice little surprise.
The Boston Celtics have decided to part ways with their mascot. I wonder how the job market is for experienced leprechauns?
This is rather old, but i stumbled upon this gem of a failed high 5.

Not So Super Bowl?
, Monday, February 2, 2009 at 11:27 AM Comments (2)
This should have gone down as one of the better Super Bowl games, complete with 2 of the greatest comebacks in Super Bowl history and the longest play ever in Super Bowl history. Unfortunately, the game ended on a sour note. James Harrison should be celebrated for having the longest score in Super Bowl history, and for that score to be on the defensive end is even more amazing especially given the circumstances right before the end of the half. Unfortunately his actions in the 4th quarter take away from all of that. James Harrison should have been throw out of the game for what he did, even a half dead John Madden said so, and John has seen some ish in his day.

Chuck Norris Presents The Drubbing Links of the Week 1

I thought a weekly sports links article presented by one of the world’s most dangerous and well known men would make for a nice new weekly addition. Enjoy:
The NBA’s St Patrick’s Day merchandise is just sacrilegious.

The Cameron Crazies got nothing on NC A&T.

While reading one of my favorite blogs, Mark Titus’s Club Trillion, I stumbled upon a gem of a YouTube clip. This is a video of North Carolina A&T’s home crowd during their season finale against Morgan State.

World Series of “Beer” Pong
, Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10:08 PM Comments (0)
For the past few years i have known about WSOBP.com, where like Beerfest, the best beer pong players from around the US meet to determine who is the best of the best, and to also win some cold hard cash. This is a great concept, and a great way to show your parents that their college tuition is going to good use. I have tried the last few years to get my old college pong partner, Nate, to enter the tournament with me, as we could put our legendary college talents to good use. Now, I am not too sure about going to this tournament.

Crab Dribble? Really?
, Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 1:23 PM Comments (0)
LeBron is a very good basketball player, and may one day go down as one of the best players ever. But you have to realize he is only 24 years old. He is still very young and needs to understand he is not at the point in his career where he can “make-up” moves and rules in the NBA.

What makes a good NFL Headcoach?

Shanahan fired
Hiring a Coordinator to be a Head Coach has a lot more to do with the type of leader and team strategist than their play-calling and strengths on prior teams. Look at the following head coaches and what their specialties were known for:
Brian Bellick – offensive “guru” Was the Minnesota Viking’s Offensive Coordinator during their record setting season. As a head coach in Baltimore, their defense seemed to score more offensive points than their offense.
Tony Dungy – Defensive “mastermind” – Tony was the Defensive Coordinator for the Vikings when they had top defense in the NFL in 1992. As a head coach, the Colts have a prolific offense, and I can run through/over them on defense.
Bill Belichick – Defensive “genius” – During his days with the Giants, Bill was the defensive coordinator on a SB winning team that shut down the Bills. Now as a head coach he had the highest scoring team of all time in 2008 and puts on the field a defense that looks like members of the AARP.

The Quietest 52 points in NBA History

NBA All Star game
From his days at University of Washington, battling in the Pac-10 with another NBA bound player Nate Robinson, you could always tell Brandon Roy was one of the better players on the court. He played all 4 years at Washington, and caught my eye as being steady, a clutch shooter and a fun player to root for. I continued watching him in the NBA, and was surprised this 4 year NCAA player, sure-thing All-Star dropped to the #6 spot, behind Sheldon Williams, Adam “Cry me a River” Morrison, and Ty Thomas. So you skip a proven player for an undersized Forward who cannot shoot, a porn stach’ed player who cried before the game finished, and an uber-athletic forward who cannot drive, dribble or shoot?

Al Davis Calling Offensive Plays
, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 4:51 PM Comments (2)
The LA Raiders are in a state of free fall. This is not news, but with the recent firing of yet another Head Coach, Al Davis may start calling plays himself next year. Now, there is no doubt that Al has been around and knows more about football than i ever imagine of learning. But there comes a point in a person’s life where they should just take a step back, know they are past their prime and let things go. If we ever had a chance for someone to use a video game to make play calls, this may be the time.
