The Big Shaqtus calls out Chris “Juwanna Mann” Bosh

, Monday, March 2, 2009 at 12:00 PM Comments (0)

Cowboy Chris BoshThe Big Shaqawokee has struck again. The Diesel has a long history of calling people out, and mixing it up in the press. But this one is a doozey.

After Shaq busted out a monster 45-point game against the Toronto Raptors, their star center, Chris Bosh claimed that O’Neal had been the benefactor of some officials playing loose with the rules and ignoring the three-second lane violations that Shaq should’ve picked up when he was camping out in the paint.

Shaq, not being one to take a hit lying down shot back with the following, “I heard what Chris Bosh said, and that’s strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men,” O’Neal said. “I’m going to do the same thing (in their next meeting) I did before — make him quit. Make ‘em quit and complain. It’s what I do.”

Nerds screwing with sports, yet again

Robert Traylor shatters backboardA team of students and professors at Clemson Univeristy are attempting to do for basketball, what the inventors of the radar gun did for baseball. The operative word being, attempting. Clemson University civil engineering professor Scott Schiff and his students are working on a contraption that measure the g-force exerted on the rim by a player dunking the ball. The unit they’ve tested at the University of Clemson has measured forces upwards of 30 G’s. They’re hoping to get their sensor system approved for use in other venues to further their “research”.

Happy Birthday Chuck

, Friday, February 20, 2009 at 6:00 PM Comments (0)

DonutToday is a big day in the life of Charles Barkley. Today Chuck turned 45 years old, the day after returning to TNT from his DUI-related hiatus.

We love you Chuck, we’re happy  that you’re back, and we hope you never leave the NBA on TNT basketball crew again. C-Webb and The Glove were great NBA players, but they couldn’t come close to replacing you on-air.

Sports teaches more than a jumpshot or home run swing

, Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (2)

A great story out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin today by ESPN.com. Earlier this month a senior on Milwaukee Madison’s basketball team lost his mother to cancer. He wasn’t planning to play in the game that night but later changed his mind and arrived at the gym in the second quarter.

He wasn’t in the book that night, so when his coach inserted him into the game, the officials had no choice but to access his team a technical foul, even at the objections of the opposing team.

Sacremento Kings and Chicago Bulls pull off 57 player deal

Oh ESPN, you’re so silly the way you play with numbers. But seriously, how many players were involved in this deal? Is it five, or is it seven? It’s kind of a big deal, especially to those two guys that aren’t sure which city they’ll be living in next week.

How to make the NBA All-Star Weekend truely an all-star event

, Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 8:00 AM Comments (5)

NBA All-Star Weekend 2009The NBA All-Star weekend has gotten watered down over the past several years, and it’s well documented. It’s not as bad as the NHL or MLB all-star extravaganzas, but it’s close. We don’t necessarily have the best shooters in the 3-point contest. The dunk contest participants are basically a joke. The selections for the actual All-Star game aren’t really representative of the best players in the league. And the laughable Shooting Stars and Skills Challenge still exist. That itself is proof enough that the All-Star Weekend needs some help. But more than that, I want it to be an All-Star weekend from start to finish.
