Best NFL Pre-game show?

It’s Sunday morning, you are waking up and stumbling to the TV to sober up and watch NFL football.  You prep the snacks, check the fridge for some beverages and throw on your favorite team’s jersey.  You fire up your laptop and check all your fantasy teams.  Yup, its your favorite day of the week.  Now, you turn on the tube and make a critical decision.  Which NFL pre-game show do you watch?  Which show will entertain you for the next hour and a half with updates, insight and entertainment?  Lucky for you i have broken down the shows:

NfloncbsCBS – James Brown, Boomer, Dan, Shannon and Coach Cowher.  Cowher, might as well have Steely McBeam giving opinions while eating a Rothlesberger sandwich and drinking an IC beer.  Getting an unbiased answer out of Cowher with regards to Pittsburgh is like asking Fox to analyze the Democratic party without slanting the facts, don’t hold your breath.  This show is only good for comedy.  Whether its watching Boomer take shots at Dan, or listening to Shannon try and talk there is always comedy.  However, that is all you get, comedy and no insight.  The occasional Charlie Casserole report is fairly interesting.  It’s like he only comes on to TV to show the Houston fans, “See i was right about not drafting Reggie Bush”.

FOX_NFL_SundayFox – Curt, Terry, Howie, Jimmy, Michael Strahan.  Strahan makes all that money and he can’t fix his teeth? Every time he smiles its like opening a grand piano.  This show has egos galore, Christ almighty, less inside jokes and more football.  Add in Frank Caliendo and we have a three ring circus.  Typical Fox programming.  If you watch long enough, you do pick up some decent football insights and tips.  However, the insight learned isn’t worth the time spent watching Ringling Bros.

NFL TV.svgNFL TV – Spero Dedes, Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Michael Irvin, Warren Sapp, and Adam Schefter.  Talk about egos, watching 5 minutes of the show and Irvin is already proclaiming himself great.  Awesome, tell me more about yourself, Michael.  I actually thought this show was half-way decent, but the addition of Irvin pushed this show over the edge, to unwatchable territory.

So the best NFL pre-game show? It is probably you and your friends, texting, IM’ing and emailing each other with last minute fantasy football questions, advice and debates along with breaking down what the updated injury news means for your team, and your real NFL team.  I say sleep in, use the internet as your source of fantasy information and avoid the annoying 10 person studio booths.

What about ESPN’s Sunday morning pre-game show? Chris Berhman, Coach Ditka, Keyshawn, Chris Carter and Tom Jackson, now that is a crew. They’re the best in my book. There’s also ABC’s Football Night in America, but between Dan Patrick, Keith Oberman, Bob Costas and Chris Collinsworth, I’m not sure who I want to punch first.

i figured since the World Wide Leader gets so much coverage, i didn’t have to mention them for the NFL Sunday Countdown. Also, i wouldn’t be able to write about ESPN’s coverage without cursing profusely. ABC’s Football Night in America is OK, but its a post-day games show. While i despise Peter King, i think Collinsworth is pretty knowledgeable and brings something to the table.

Collinsworth has experience. No knowledge though. He’s absolutely worthless. If I could him and Clark Kellog on a boat that would get lost at sea, I’d do it in a heartbeat. NFL Sunday Countdown is the tops. Period.

Not with Chris Berman and Cris Carter on the team, no way. Carter may catch TD passes, but that’s all he does. He makes Shannon Sharpe look intelligent.
