With all of the pre-draft trades going on and the upcoming draft itself, some of the greatest NBA news, as far as I’m concerned, went largely unnoticed the other day. The 76ers are bring back an updated version of an older logo. A slightly altered version of their circa 1997 branding will be replacing the horrific black and gold nightmare we’ve been putting up with.

Those were the days
It’s no surprise that their team went south when they revamped their unies to a set that was best fit for a team like the Portland Jail-Blazers of old. On top of the nasty black and gold with their red, white & blue mixed in, they also had that horrific shimmering material. Possibly the only worse uniform was that gold nightmare that the Dallas Mavericks sported for a few games early in the 2007-2008 season.
By far the best uniforms that the 76ers have ever had were the red, white and blue ones during Allen Iverson’s early days with the team. But the new ones have the potential to be a close second. Brand New has a graphic of theĀ evolution of this new logo from the old, ‘retro’ logo it was birthed from.

Nice pull on the Iverson photo. He’s added quite a bit more ink over the years.

It almost doesn’t look like him. He’s so baby-faced and untatted.
