Rajon Rondo fouls Brad Miller, NBA officials make correct call, Chicago fans cry like they play for the Spurs

The final moments of game five of the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls series has created quite a storm. And I understand why, but I don’t understand why. The play/call that’s been questioned the most is the foul by Rajon Rondo on Brad Miller, which wasn’t necessarily the most-questionable call of the game.

As we all now have seen, Miller ended up wide open in the middle of the court, drove to the hoop, got swatted in the face by Rajon Rondo as he went up and flipped a shot up at the rim that ended up not even being close. Miller subsequently stepped up to the line, after getting his oral bleeding under control, and missed the first (unintentionally) by a mile, and missed the second shot (intentionally) and didn’t even hit the rim. All while in some pain and discomfort, and doing a fantastic acting job to appear severely disabled by the blow to the head.

Wrigley Field Bleachers, America’s largest single bar

dead center, right inbetween the beer and the bathrooms.

dead center, right inbetween the beer and the bathrooms.

Saturday the 18th of April, i took in my first bleacher game experience at Wrigley Field, in Chicago’s North side.  I had been to other games at Wrigley, but never sat in the bleacher section.  For those who have never been, this is quiet an experience.  The tickets are general admission, and typically re-sell for a lot higher than other seats in the stadium.  Around the stadium is some of the best pre-game bars you will find in America.

We started off at the Uberstein, where the beer flows like wine, and shots flow in shotskiis.  This is one of my favorite dive bars near the stadium, as it avoids the tourists.  If you are ever in Chicago, i highly suggest you visit the bar.  The waitresses are easy on the eyes, the German beer is strong, and the pretzels are delicious.

NFL Rookie Contracts

, Monday, April 27, 2009 at 9:54 AM Comments (1)

This past weekend the NFL had their annual draft.  It is a very exciting time for players, teams fans and most importantly agents.  This is the time where agents make the most money, guaranteed money.  Rookie contracts in my opinion are insane, completely insane.  For a player who has been drafted in the top 10 of the 1st round to become the highest paid player on their respective team is outrageous.  As a point of reference, last year Chris Long (DE for the Rams), after 16 games has made more money than his father, Howie Long did in his entire career.  The draft contacts are a complete joke, with the absurd amounts of guaranteed money.

My 2009 1st Round NFL Mock Draft

, Friday, April 24, 2009 at 12:00 PM Comments (0)

2009_draft_logoEvery year I pull together what i think will happen in the 1st round of the NFL draft, along with some commentary on who they should take.  I spend literally minutes pulling all of this information together so you can be prepared for your team’s draft.  Let’s get right into it shall we:

1. On the Clock since sometime in February, the Detroit Lions select – Matt Stafford - QB – Georgia.  This leaves the 0-16 Lions no better than where they were the previous year.  I am not a real big fan on this year’s QB class, and would wait it out till next year’s stellar class.  I would have gone with sure thing, LB Aaron Curry.

Chuck NorrisNBA Playoffs start:

And with that, we have the best show on TV.  The TNT have a bet with Charles.

So you can harass and assault opposing fans at Yankee Stadium with little repercussion, but you can’t move during the Star Spangle Banner or God Bless America?

The Detroit Lions finally have something to cheer about.

John Madden has retired, so lets remember his work with the telestrator.

Your Weekly Chuck Norris Fact:

Chuck Norris was voted “Most likely to save a POW using a mule kick” by his senior class.

* Please note that Chuck Norris is in no way affiliated with The Drubbing or its writers. If he did find out we were using his name in a gimmick he would roundhouse kick all of us to death.

Lipstick on a Lion

Detroit Lions toy truckWhat do you do when your team fails to win a single game during the entire season? New coaching staff? Naturally. New training staff? Nah. New playbook? No. Add leadership through free-agency? Nope. New logo? Hells yeah! You’d think they’d go with a completely new team name, new colors, new everything, so that maybe the world would forget the Detroit Lions and what happened last year. Instead they just changed the font, altered some lines and let it rip.

Buy or Sell? Biron, Nitty, neither?

As I slowly come to grips with the fact that my Philadelphia Flyers are overmatched in their playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, I am left to wonder…what roster changes are needed?

Chuck fails at eating

, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 10:00 AM Comments (0)

I never thought I’d see the day, but Charles Barkley has failed an eating contest. This one is right up there with the saltines challenge, and the Friendly’s Jim Dandy™ challenge. Allegedly only a special few have been able to down a piece of bread in 25 seconds. Chuck is not one of them.

Dwight Howard is NOT my Defensive Player of the Year

, Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 3:09 AM Comments (1)

On April 21st the National Basketball Association named Dwight Howard the Defensive Player of the Year. First let me start off by saying CONGRATS DWIGHT HOWARD! That being said, Dwight Howard, you are NOT the Defensive Player of the Year in the National Basketball Association.

If you are so intent on choosing a Defensive Player of the Year from Florida, look no further than Dwyane Tyrone Wade, Jr. Everyone says that defense wins championships – well the Miami Heat are not going to win a championship but they did make the playoffs and that is an achievement for that franchise.

Getting Cup Crazy

, Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 12:55 PM Comments (1)

It’s madness. The 2009 NHL playoffs began last week and the match-ups have provided  quite a bit of excitement. Granted, my last post didn’t pan out the way I had envisioned with regards to who was getting into the post-season, nevertheless the intensity, the violence, the passion, and the overall play has been nothing short of outstanding.
