2009 NCAA Baketball Tournament 2nd weekend Awards

The “John Cena lookalike” award to Chris Kramer from Purdue.

I wonder if Chris Kramer can bust out horrible rap lyrics.

I wonder if Chris Kramer can bust out horrible rap lyrics.

The “sniper” award to Jermaine Dixon.  I think i saw the shooter in the upper deck, Jermaine.

The “Look its Enrico Pallazzo” award to the NCAA Refs.  So let me get this straight, i can hand check the hell out of someone out on the perimeter and draw easy offensive foul calls underneath the hoop?  There are more hand check fouls called in the NBA.  Don’t get me started on charging calls, either.  I have seen more no calls in high school ball than i have in the college game.  A defender can be standing underneath the basket and fall over on a cough, and the ref gets uber excited, does his two hop step and points like a NFL first down, “Charge”! Ridiculous, this is more like Euro soccer than it is basketball.

The “Dennis Green” Award goes to Tyler Hansbrough.  He was who we thought he was.  Tyler’s inept performance against an NBA caliber player (Blake Griffin), along with his attempted dunk, that ended up being 2 feet short, pretty much tells us all we need to know about his future in the NBA.  Tyler needs to improve his outside jump shot if he wants to be the considered the next poor man’s Eduardo Najera.

Chuck Norris

Pleaste note this is our 100th Post…woo hoo.  While most of the Staff jumped on me like i was Laettner against Kentucky, Rodney just kind of stood in tears of what i am assuming are joy, doing his own Thomas Hill impersonation.

On to the Links:

What does Elliot Spitzer and A-roid have in common? They use the same “dating” service.

The Man, the Myth, the Mouth has announced his retirement.  Let the HOF debate begin.

Shaq showcases another sport during Phoenix’s starting lineups.

Scott Novak, welcome to NCAA basketball, enjoy your poster.

Jeral McNeal, you just got owned, by AJ Price.  If i were Price, i would have called a Time Out so McNeal could sub himself out

2009 NCAA Tournament 1st Weekend Awards

Now that the first two rounds of the 2009 NCAA tournament are finished, and the Sweet 16 is set, let’s hand out some awards:

I have no idea either Dino, how a team that talented can be coached so poorly.

I have no idea either Dino, how a team that talented can be coached so poorly.

The “Thanks for effing my bracket” award to the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest.  You may have 3 top 20 NBA talent players on your team, but you decided to mail in the first round game to Cleveland St.  May you enjoy a long year of high ankle sprains, Jeff Teague.

The “How the hell did you punch a ticket to the Big Dance” award to Minnesota.  Nothing against the Gophers, i actually like Tubby Smith as a coach, but Minnesota is just not good and because they got into the tournament we do not get to enjoy Steph Curry or Patty Mills carry their teams.  Davidson lost all 7 of their games to teams with 20 plus wins.  3 of St Mary’s 6 losses were to a very good Gonzaga team.
As a side note, a great game between those two talented players will be on ESPN 2 tonight, i highly suggested you check it out.

The House that Jordan Built

The Man, the Myth, the Legend, oh yeah there is an MJ statue infront of the United Center too.

The Man, the Myth, the Legend, oh yeah there is a MJ statue infront of the United Center too.

Tuesday, March 17th, i decided would be a good day to visit the Mecca of NBA in the 1990′s, The United Center.  Also, my Boston Celtics were in town and it just so happened to be St. Patrick’s Day.  I really had no option but to go to the game.  The first thing you notice about the United Center is the amount of parking available, I’m not kidding.  If you drove, you had no issues finding a spot, unreal for a sporting event.  Inside, the arena was nice, a little old, but overall it was comfortable.  The food stands were plentiful, and while they lacked cotton candy, the rest of the event food was good.

I had club level seats behind one end of the basketball court, and sat in the first row, lucky for me right in front of Super Fan 23.  Sporting my green Paul Pierce jersey, i immediately got “boo’ed” as soon as i sat down, awesome.  Then, the killer.  A man who had to be about 6’2 300lbs sat right next to me.  Well, in reality he sat in his seat and half spilled into my seat, lovely.

Chuck NorrisIt is NCAA tournament time, which i can only imagine is the reason The Drubbing staff has been slow this week… (yeah i am calling the rest of you out):

I am proud to be an American, when this is considered a sport.

Some new rules in the NFL.

NCAA Men’s Basketball March Madness is finally here

, Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 9:30 AM Comments (2)

The ball is tipped, and there you are. You’re running for your life, you’re a shooting star. That song means one thing, March Madness has returned. The time of year when every office secretary throws caution to the wind and ponies up the cheddar to enter their office pool and for some unknown reason automatically get the best odds of actually winning the whole thing.

To help you bring home the bacon in your own bracket pool, we’ve polled our staff of NCAA basketball experts to get their final four predictions.

Marko Jaric’s Golden Ticket

, Friday, March 13, 2009 at 4:06 PM Comments (0)

Sitting the bench in the NBA apparently has its perks for some.

Sitting on the bench in the NBA apparently has its perks for some.

In Marko Jaric’s 7 seasons of NBA basketball the 6’7 Serbian has been on 3 NBA teams, and has averaged 7 points, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds a game.  This season he is averaging a career low 10minutes a game for the lowly Memphis Grizzlies.  He gets to sit on the bench making $6.5M a year.  Not a bad gig at all.

Now ordinarily that would not be such a big deal, but in case you did not know, he is a very, very, very, very, luck guy.  Yes, that is the one and only Adriana Lima (and yes i could have added more “very” ‘s).  Basically, Marko lives the life we only dream of, except he has less talent than the person we envision in our dreams.  Marko has found the real life version of the Golden Ticket.  He is not a very good professional athlete, he is a millionaire and he is married to a Brazilian Victoria’s Secret Supermodel.

So how does Marko use his luck and fortune? By being involved in this.  Now this is only an investigation, and he could be cleared over a case of mistaken identity, a gold digger wanting to get paid, or maybe even a “cultural difference” (kind of like if i go to Japan expecting a “happy ending”).

If you think this article was half written just show I could post pictures of Adriana, then you would be correct.

If you think this article was half written just so I could post pictures of Adriana, then you would be correct.

I only hope the incident does not escalate and we find out he has started to pull something along these lines.  Because that would be a slap in the face of all of us out there living normal lives.

*Chuck Norris Presents The Drubbing links of the week 7

Chuck NorrisIn the week before selection Sunday we have a nice batch of links:

Terrell Owens press conference (sorry i could not find the audio) where he will be joining “North America’s team”.

This happens a lot, but it still cracks me up every time a reporter gets embarrassed.

I wonder if this technology from Topps will help or hurt the value of my old baseball cards from the 80′s.

Word to the wise, do not criticize your employer via facebook.  Especially if you work for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Here we go…1 month left in the NHL regular season

It's time to get serious...who will win Lord Stanley's Cup?

It's time to get serious...who will win Lord Stanley's Cup?

With just about a month to go in the regular season, the NHL is primed for what looks to be a very competitive playoff run for the Stanley Cup.Outside of the current conference leaders (Boston from the East, and San Jose and Detroit (No.1 and No.2 respectively) in the West) who I imagine will continue to dominant in the fashion they have since October, the matchups for one of the most passionate tournaments has yet to be decided.
