The Basketball Jesus Rankings: Week 2

Just a week and a half removed from Halloween, Week 2 of The Basketball Jesus Rankings are still serving up some tricks and a few treats if you’re a Golden State Warriors fan. All is right in the world of Larry Bird Fantasy Basketball Leagues as LeBron James appears to have cemented his position at the top of the rankings, barring injury, as he’s built a 50-point lead on the rest of the field. But I’m still having trouble grasping the player that’s catapulted to the #5 position.

The the first surprise you may notice is that there’s no Kobe Bryant. He only had two games this week and put up the standard Kobe scoring efforts, but hasn’t produced much in the way of rebounds or assists. That’s gonna make it hard to compete with LeBron when he has to 40-point games and when Amare Stoudemire explodes for a 49-point game. After that, one can’t help but see that there are two, yes two, Golden State Warriors in the rankings. Captain Jack, Stephen Jackson making his way into the top-10, and Andris Biedrins miraculously slipped into the number five spot. I guess four games in one week and a double-double in each game can work wonders, cause we’re certainly not awarding him style points for his free-throw shooting. Jacko also benefitted from the four-game week and maintained his solid point and rebound totals.

Zach Randolph and Kevin Martin were nice enough to grace the tail end of the rankings with their presence. I’d be a liar if I told you I ever expected to see a Knickerbocker in the rankings, no matter how many points Jamal Crawford put up. But Randolph has been quietly putting together a pretty nice season including three straight games with at least 22 points and 13 rebounds last week. It’s unlikely we’ll see Kevin Martin on this list very often unless he can keep up his prolific scoring and his team can find a way to take some of the pressure to score off of him.
